Care of ABC Gears Motor/Gearboxes

Please see below recommendations on the ongoing care and oiling of your ABC motor/gearbox, prolonging both the operation and life on your unit.

• Use fine oil – this can be purchased from ABC Gears at a cost of £2.00 per pot.
• Pay particular attention to oiling the second and/or third gear stages but would recommend oiling all gear ends across the frames.
• Oil lightly but frequently especially on newly bought units.
• Please do not oil the second shaft on double ended Maxon motors – there are no bearings and the oil will damage the brush commutator inside. You can, however oil all other motors but sparingly.
• Please do not use engine oil or 3-in-1 oil, both will cause possible ceasing and permanent damage to the unit. Engine oil is too thick and does not penetrate into the bearings and 3-in-1 oil contains varnish and will lock the gearbox.

Please be aware that some manufacturers are supplying axles that are oversized and axles should not be forced into the motor/gearbox or they can seize and damage the gearbox. By polishing the axles, this will help free them to fit. 

Please take note of these points as any returns pertaining to damage caused by misuse will invalidate any warranty.
